The works on paper spawned from the idea of a stone carver using images of his works and creating contexts for them - where the works are not bound by gravity. Some are imagined landscape or architectural sites, others fabricated from history. The goal was to use the most concrete objects that an artist can fabricate - stone carvings - and project images that can perform stunts otherwise unfamiliar to stone. The carvings at San Fortunato attempt the same performance - that is to be as much of an image, an illusion, as they are carved objects.
